Longevitas Prize Launched
Longevitas Ltd is pleased to announce the founding of the annual Longevitas Prize for the best-performing student in the subject of survival models at the Department of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics at Heriot-Watt University. The first recipient of the prize is Miss Yen Yeoh, who came top in the June 2008 exam in survival models.
Accepting the introduction of the prize on behalf of the department, Professor Angus Macdonald, Head of Department, said "This is an excellent way of raising the profile of a key subject for actuaries. I am delighted to accept on behalf of the department."
Stephen Richards, director of Longevitas Ltd, said "Survival models are now a critical part of the actuarial toolkit for life offices. This prize will hopefully encourage the coming generation of actuaries in learning about modern techniques for analysing mortality."
